Answers to common questions about safety inspections for lifting machinery and accessories.
A safety inspection is required before new equipment is put into service, after major repairs or modifications, following any accident or unusual event, and at fixed intervals per safety regulations. Routine periodic inspections help detect defects before they become real safety hazards.
Lifting machinery must be inspected at least every 14 months, in accordance with regulations and professional guidelines. It is important to keep an orderly inspection log and ensure the next inspection does not exceed the permitted interval.
Lifting accessories — such as slings, shackles, hooks, ropes and lifting cages — must be inspected at least every 6 months. A shorter inspection interval is required due to daily wear, exposure to field conditions and repeated loads that may compromise the accessory.
The safety report details the equipment inspected, inspection date, findings and defects identified, recommendations for repair or maintenance, and corrective-action notes. At the end of the process an inspection certificate meeting Ministry of Labor requirements is issued.
